In 2017, 78 domestic violence victims in Pennsylvania were killed with a gun, the highest number in a decade. That same year the Pennsylvania Legislature moved to limit domestic abusers' access to firearms. Act 79, signed into law by Governor Tom Wolf in October 2018, went into effect on April 10, 2019 and strengthened PA's Protection From Abuse (PFA) Act.
Come to this one-hour CLE to hear how Act 79 limits the third-party gun safekeeping options available to convicted domestic abusers. You'll also learn about federal protections that can apply, even if Act 79 and the courts do not require firearm relinquishment. New procedures for state law enforcement agencies to track firearm relinquishment orders will also be discussed.
